The Malawi SRHR Alliance joined delegates from 21 African countries who convened at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Malawi, from 28 February to 2 March 2023 for the second African Commission on the Status of Women and Girls (Africa CSW).
The meeting was aimed at facilitating intergenerational, intersectional, and cross-sectoral interaction for in-person spontaneous networking and contributions towards the CSW outcome document and negotiations (reflections, exchange of ideas, sharing actions). The event sparked critical conversations, questioning the patriarchal and colonial underpinnings of digital technology design.
The meeting was agreed by the presence of the Minister of Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare – Honourable Jean Sendeza.
The Malawi SRHR Alliance actively contributed to the drafted declaration, encapsulating the collective aspirations of African women and girls. Africa CSW67 served also as a platform for networking and collaboration, aiming to empower African women and girls in the realm of technology.
